OK. So we couldn’t be Nerd Parade if we weren’t in love with our gadgets. Here is a picture of some junk. :)

Week 8: Covert action shot of Chris and Richie locking down a take on “Pity Party.” The new album is sounding ridiculous so far. More pics will follow.

So, what’s next?

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, rodents of unusual size: It would seem that Nerd Parade has found itself at the end of another long string of one-nighters. We’ve been out on the road and back on the heels of our most recent album The Span of a Life. We’ve played some great festivals, television shows. We’ve garnered a bit of critical praise for our work. Heck, we even won a couple of fancy awards on the way!

Well, what in tar-nation do we do now?

First things first: we are taking a minute to breathe. A few days (maybe even a couple of weeks) to get excited about music again. Once we’ve rested and repaired our battered bodies, we are convening to write and record new material at the newly-designated Casa de Nerd Studios. Our hope is that sometime in the next 90-120 days, we will be delivering a new collection of music, most of which has yet to be written.

Above: An artist’s rendering of our new studio. Also shown: Les Paul — may his ghost always haunt our sessions.

The prospect of writing a record in the studio is thoroughly exciting to me.  There’s a certain fluidity to the process (and the ability to change anything at any time) that I find really appealing. The new record already carries a working title: Daylight Savings Time, and the few songs we have currently dedicated to it speak very differently from the songs of our last two records. Where A Delicate Bashing was a slice of “indie rock & electronica” and The Span of a Life was more of a “progressive rock” record, Daylight Savings Time promises to touch on those sounds, while taking us into brave new territory where we will create a record from pure vision, rather than practice.

Of course, I’m sure there will be lots of updates, pictures, and videos of the recording process. We’ll keep you informed and try not to annoy you with excessive internet information dissemination (say that 5 times fast.) We thank you all for your support and enthusiasm for our little band. We’ll see you on the other side!

Last Atlanta Show Until???

10-02-2009_HighlandInn

This is it, folks!

We are returning to the studio to record our next record beginning October 6th, so that means October 2nd at the Highland Inn Ballroom could very well be our last Atlanta show of the year!

We’ve had the BEST YEAR EVER so far — and while we love rocking out for you all, we are certainly looking forward to some time off from rigorous performance to focus on our newest batch of unrecorded material.

Also Performing are Casper and the Cookies and Mary O. Harrison & the Tiny Tears. Doors open at 8, Cover charge is $5. This show is presented by Swinesong Entertainment.

Heck Yeah!

We just found out that we won Reader’s Choice for “Best Rock Band” in Atlanta’s Creative Loafing magazine. CL is the most prominent entertainment-based independent magazine in all of the south, so it’s a pretty big honor for us. That’s not all though; we also won “Best Song With an Atlanta Reference” and R. Garcia (Yours Truly) won “Best Local Label” for Nophi Recordings.

We’re extremely grateful to all our  fans that voted for us and made this possible. We look forward to repaying the favor by being the best band we can be, making good records and spreading the positive energy that has carried us this far!

Asheville, here we come.

w/special guests: George Terry and the Zealots

We’re very happy to announce our return to Asheville, NC!

Aside from being a magnificent place to hang out, shop, eat & enjoy nature, Asheville happens to be one of our favorite places in the world to play. This will be our first time performing at the Rocket Club, and our fifth rocking Asheville this year!

I think I can speak for the whole of Nerd Parade when I say this: We love you guys!

Nerd Parade & Wighat @ The Five Spot

92509

Our next show is at our “home base” in Atlanta — a.k.a: The Five Spot. We are performing with our friends, the mighty and talented Wighat.

However, before either of us perform, there will be a very special performance by the Paul Green School of Rock — performing music by “Guitar Gods”, which will no doubt be full of major riffage and shreddage.

The good news is: if you pay to get into the PGSR concert, you don’t have to pay to see the NP/WH show. Now that’s just good economics. Doors for the Guitar Gods open at 5:30pm, and doors for the ‘Hat/’Parade ticket open around 8:30pm.

See ya there!

The Griggs Treatment

Here’s a unique photographic take on NP by Atlanta Photographer Kevin Griggs. Kevin’s work can be seen in many publications, but most notably in OhmPark — a great local music blog which has been extremely supportive of what we do.
